As he makes his comeback this week with luxury retailer Joyce, whose founder he credits with helping discover him in the 1980s, Romeo Gigli said he feels “a strong emotion” and — most importantly for him — a sense of freedom.

“I love it, I love it, because I don’t feel like I’m in a cage, I feel… I feel the freedom,” said the Italian designer in an interview two days before he hosts an in-store cocktail on Friday. “It’s a strong emotion.
